Sarah's Graphic Liner Tutorial

One of the biggest beauty trends that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere is graphic liner. It’s fun, can be done with almost any color or product, and is very creative. The best thing for a fun look because you can basically do any fun design with it and it will still look super cool.

A lot of people tell me they have a hard time figuring out how to do graphic liner, so I’m going to break down the simplest design for you guys! After that, just let your creativity run wild!

Step one: get to know your eye shape

So many people tell me they don’t think they can do graphic liner on their eye shape. One of the biggest things is figuring out where your crease is and where to place the eyeliner so it is visible. My general tip that works for a lot of people it to place it higher than you would think! I’ve done this look on friends and have had to place it almost right below their eyebrow. It just takes some trial and error. If the classic graphic liner look doesn’t work with your eye, try experimenting with different designs!

Step two: placing a dot

After you’ve figured out where your liner would be visible on your eye, place a dot roughly above the center of your eye. This will be the highest point of your graphic liner. For this look I used Fenty Beauty’s Vivid Liquid Eyeliner in the shade “Pure White,” but you can use any eyeliner, eyeshadow, or even liquid lipstick to get this look!

Step three: more dots!

After you’ve placed the center dot, put two more where you want your liner to begin and end. It’s best to place these slightly lower than the center dot if you want a clean arch shape.

Step four: draw the first section

The simplest way to do this is to start sketching out the first section. I like to begin in the inner half of the liner because I find it’s easier to see where the line will go. Don’t worry if it’s messy, we’ll clean it up later!

Step five: finish the sketch

Once you’ve got the first half, just finish sketching out the second half, moving in a smooth arch shape. Again, don’t worry if it’s messy, we’ll clean it up next!

Step six: fill in the shape and finish the look

Once you’ve got the general line down, go over it a few times to make it bolder and sharper. If you mess up, just take a clean makeup brush with makeup remover to clean up the line. I like a bolder graphic liner, so I tend to make mine pretty thick (this is also great for covering up any mistakes!).

That’s the look! I hope you guys try it out and get creative with it! Feel free to tag @vassarcontrast on Instagram to show us your looks!
